Obama’s gun control

“guns don’t kill people, people kill people” stated Thomas Jefferson. His statement grows truer and truer everyday. They are simply tools, how guns are used is up to the handler. Most people use them responsibly for such things as home protection, or self defense. There have been individuals who have abused guns though. They should be properly punished to the fullest extent of the law. Those of us who enjoy hunting and other recreational activities involving firearms should not be. Unfortunately that’s where obama’s gun control policies are taking us. Guns can be both enjoyed and controlled with the correct approach to the problem.

The second amendment states “the right to bear arms”, and that is true we should be allowed that right. There is however a limit to the amount of fire power one would need to simply keep themselves safe. I agree that Obama should not be allowed to control the buying and selling of firearms. There are some things he has touched on that make sense though. Like controlling the selling of fully automatic weapons. Fully automatic simply means that the gun will continue to fire, as fast as possible, as long as the trigger is pressed down. Guns that are not automatic only fire once when the trigger is pressed. There is a much higher possibility of the handler being injured when using an automatic if not properly trained. In that case I agree that extra steps should be taken to have the opportunity to buy these fully automatic weapons. Like special classes and good reasons for why the person needs a fully auto weapon.

Hunting is a recreational sport that requires firearms in most cases. I personally hunt on a regular basis, and know the proper ways to handle my rifle. There are required classes that I had to take in order to gain my hunting license, which taught me these required skills. When my father bought my rifle he wasn’t required to do anything, other then sign paper work and go through a waiting period. I could seriously hurt my self or others if I didn’t know the proper steps to handling my rifle. I think that a hunting license should be required or taking classes before receiving a rifle.

The big argument is that if guns were eliminated all together that crime would go down. This is not true at all I think that it would become more dangerous. Guns could still be purchased on the black market. Those individuals who buy off of the black market would have even less to worry about breaking into someone’s house. They could hurt more people and get away with more. So by having the right to carry them whether we ever have to use them or not they do at least strike some fear.

With the right requirements and the right policies put into place we could put guns in the right peoples hands. I think that guns could actually help reduce crime if put into the hands of properly trained individuals. After all “guns don’t kill people, people kill people“.
