Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to sit on your comfortable couch, in the privacy of your own home and get special one-on-one attention to help you learn the skills needed to survive and succeed in the real world? If you are looking for a more relaxed atmosphere maybe home schooling is better suited for you, while public school is better for those who want the whole school experience such as learning with their peers. But which is the best for preparing you for the real world?

Now days more and more parents are pulling their children out of public school and teaching their children themselves at home. There are ranges of reasons for parents pulling their children out of public schools from disabilities to religion and for fear their child will be distracted and negatively influenced by the other children at school. There are some groups of students that get together and team up with a church or different organizations and have what they call their own version of home schooling, but that seems more like a smaller version of a private school. What I mean by home school is the parent uses home schooling material to teach their children themselves at their home.

To be successful is to obtain what you desire and to become prosperous. To be prepared is to make ready ahead of time. These are the two main things students go to school to learn to better enable them in the real world. I believe that students who attend public schools better receive the knowledge needed for life on their own. They not only learn the educational tools needed but also the social skills. Many people would probably say social skills are not necessarily a main priority in the real world compared to your educational skills, but I would have to disagree. Even if you are the smartest person in the world you can’t tell people your ideas or thoughts if you don’t know how to properly communicate them. Most careers involve dealing with customers or clients so you have to be able to interact with them by not only communicating but also listening. Another major part of social skills is learning how to make connections with people. If your career involves working with a big company and you want to work your way up to a higher position you would need your social skills to make a connection with people in your desired area to help boost you to a higher position. Also in the real world you will experience many different types of people from different cultures and ethnicities to people with different personalities and public school exposes you to be able to interact with these kinds of people. A lot of parents fear that their child may be bullied at school or picked on, but unfortunately no matter what, at some point in your life you will have someone say or do something to you that makes you feel like you’ve been picked on but that only makes you stronger and teaches you to stand up for yourself.

It may be true that home schooled kids are intellectually smarter and score better on college entrance exams but that’s because they’ve received one-on-one attention and stayed on the topic that they were learning until they fully understood, while public schools do not receive as much special attention and students just have to keep up. The truth is that in the real world and at your career your not going to have someone give you special attention and wait until you fully understand what your needed to do, your going to have to keep up .Also materials needed for home schooling can get expensive and children are taught by their parents, who most likely went to public schools themselves and do not have a certified teaching degree such as the teachers in public schools. Plus, being in the comfort of your own home could cause the student to have tendencies to be lazy and not focus. Many parents would have to be unemployed to teach the children or work around their work schedule which could get difficult. Many parents think that with home schooling they will be able to help their child stay on track academically so they can receive scholarships for college. Just as many parents of students in public school encourage their children to get good grades and work hard and they make sure they are attending school so parent involvement is just the same in public schools for most students. Many students receive not only academic scholarships but also sports scholarships. If you don’t attend a public school you won’t have a chance to play a team sport and try to recieve a scholarship for that sport. You can always play on a community team but you won’t have exposure from scouts or scholarship offers. Team sports is another part of the school experience for most public school students, and being on a team teaches them how to interact with one another, hard work and determination which are all skills that will help you to succeed.

I would say that the only times it would be beneficial to home school your child is if your child has a disability and absolutely needs one-on-one attention or if you have a very religious background and want to educate your children on your religious beliefs as well as school basics. Other than that I believe the better place to prepare your kids for a successful future would be public school. I’m not saying that home schooled kids aren’t successful but, that in my opinion, sending your child to a public school will help them grasp all the things needed for a successful future.

Your paper sound really good, and I agree public schools give you the social skills you need in life to survive in different areas of jobs. “Many people would probably say socials skills” I think it should just be social. “compared to your educational skills but i would have to disagree” I also think there should be a comma before but.
I think public schooling will help a lot more in this world because your around the whole atmosphere and you see so many different people. You’ll be able to prepare yourself for meeting new people, just like when you have a career, you’re always going to have to talk to new people. It will also help with your personality by being around so many people. With a good personality, you can get a job much easier.
I agree that making time for home school is a problem and that public schools make it easier for the parent. I think you need to show a source that say that home school kids score higher the public school kids.
I do think homeschooling is way better than public school but i also wouldn’t want my child to miss out on things like homecoming, pep rallys, etc so this is a hard decision to make for any one.
I believe that if you want to make it into this world and be successful that you should go to a real school. A downside to being home schooled are that you have very little social skills and would have a difficult time getting infront of groups. another is having the problem with both you as well as your parent trying to understand the material that they are teying to teach you. Schools are better prepared to teach students and it is also a better environment for your child to get out of the house and learn.
You need to fix your period. After the sentence that says;” The truth is that the real world and at … your going to hav to keep up.” Other than that mistake i did not notice any moistakes in your paper. All around a good paper. You talked about many things i never thought about.
I can understand why some parents are pulling their childern out of the public school. Some parents fear their childern lives. But I think that those children are at a disadvantge comapred to other children. If those children want to go to college they would have to adjust to the change, on the other hand if you already have that experience thinks will be better for he or she. Plus some parents can’t give you what other peers and teacher can.
If you’re going to make a statement like this, back it up with facts. Just because you know two children who have been pulled out of public schools to be taught at home, doesn’t mean everyone’s doing it. Plus, avoid using the term kid, children or child is more formal and professional.
Thanks for the tip about not using kid in my paper.I do need to sound more professional. I never said anything about me knowing two people that were pulled out of public school in my paper though and also I never said that everyone was pulling their child out of public school. I said that alot more parents were begining to because of various reasons which I listed and can you give me some specific areas where you think I need more facts? Thanks
This paragraph starts off with intelligence and ends up talking about sports. As a reader, I find this very confusing. Grades and sports are different topics. You could also talk about how home schooled children might be more involved in community sports over a school team sport. You don’t have to go to a public school to play a sport.
I agree with you on this issue because i have a uncle who is now twenty eight who was in home school. He is currently unemployed and plays World of Warcraft day in-and-out. Your paper is well developed, but you may want to shorten the length of the part right before you address your topic. If you cut this down it will make the reader much more interested in your topic. However, overall its a great paper.
I really like the way you started your paper off its makes the reader interested. There are some grammatical errors and run on sentences so be careful for those. Some things are bits choppy make sure it flows.Other than that great job
Make sure to state your thesis. Let the reader know as early as possible that you are against home schooling.
Some people might say that success is not measured by prosperity but by holding to their values. You have an unstated assumption that suggests that we all measure success by the same criteria. Many home schoolers choose this path out of their religious convictions, Your argument also suggests that home schooled students have little or no social skills. Maybe you could clarify what you mean by social skills and show evidence to prove that home schooled students suffer a lack of these skills.
You make a really good point when you state that, in the real world, you’re not going to get that kind of individual attention. I don’t think I would mention the expense because home schoolers know the cost and choose to spend their money in this way. The point about a parent being unemployed might not apply because most home schooled children are taught by stay-at-home mothers. The point about sports is a good one.
